James Tuttle Named 2007 Texas Arborist of the Year

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas Forest Service and the Texas Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture presented the 2007 Texas Arborist of the Year award to James Tuttle of Lubbock at the annual Texas Tree Conference in Waco, October 11.

The annual tree conference awards celebrate the accomplishments of those who are dedicated to help Texas build stronger communities by planting, maintaining, protecting, and educating about trees.

"These awards recognize the best of urban and community forestry in Texas," said James Hull, state forester and director of the Texas Forest Service. Tuttle was awarded for his outstanding contributions to arboriculture practices in the drier, rockier regions of Texas.

Tuttle has been a Certified Arborist since the inception of the program in Texas. He has faithfully served the West Texas region (even stretching into eastern New Mexico) and for many years was the sole arborist in the vicinity. Tuttle currently owns Tree Loving Care, a company dedicated to educating people about tree care in West Texas.

Tuttle served for several years on the International Society of Arboriculture Texas Chapter board and was president in 2003-2004. His fervor and dedication to arboriculture and ISA has been a direct influence on there now being many Certified Arborists in the region. He has given talks, taught at workshops and seminars and has had many one-on-one talks to promote arboriculture.

Texas Forest Service's urban forestry programs develop and improve the capacity of communities to plant and care for trees in parks, along streets and in other urban settings.
